At Your First Dance Co. (YFDC), we specialise in offering you your every First dance experience. From taking Your First Dance class, to Your First Dance at your wedding. YFDC offer unique and tailored classes and choreography for all ages and couples. In 2010, we were one of the first studios in Newcastle and the Central Coast to offer a personalised wedding dance and choreography service. This is a growing niche, and we are proud pioneers in the industry.
Our vision is to offer our individuals, families, and couples a service that is uniquely tailored to their personal style, experience, physical capability, and vision. Working towards a love, and invigorating experience, of dance; we focus on the joy of movement not competition or perfection. If you don’t love the experience of dance, then dance itself means nothing.
Creativity in dance is essential to capturing the essence of the dancer. That’s why our teachers work collaboratively with our students and couples in order to create beautiful dance experience. We will walk (or dance) with you as you experience each of Your First Dance moments.
We can offer high quality dance education and choreography because we have highly trained, professional staff who are passionate about what they do. All teachers at YDFC have extensive training and experience in the dance industry.
Anne Marie is an experienced dancer, performer, choreographer and business woman.
Having taught dance for over 15 years, it was her own wedding in 2009 that helped her to find her calling. Marrying the love of her life, she co-ordinated a wedding dance for her and her husband (plus their bridal party!) which wowed their guests and added something extra special to their day. With hard-work and passion Your First Dance Co. was born. Anne Marie wanted YFDC to become everything a normal dance school isn’t, she wanted it to offer everything DANCE. And with determination she made it so.
From its beginnings YFDC blossomed into a unique and highly sought-after wedding service provider and now, after many years Your First Dance Co. has choreographed hundreds of wedding dances and continues to be the leading Wedding Dance provider on the Central Coast and in the Newcastle / Hunter Valley region.
Anne Marie is motivated to help anyone who wants to make memories on the dancefloor – “I admire couples who truly want to make their wedding day special and set out to learn something that is unique and personal. It’s an honour to be part of your dance journey”.
Anne Marie has had an incredible dance and competition choreography career with highlights including performances throughout Australia and America including the Sydney 2000 Olympics opening ceremony and workshops in Hollywood.
She brings this experience and energy to all she does, continuing to grow and expand the Your First Dance Co. range of offerings and instructing dance schools and classes – Anne Marie is an inspiration and a power-house!
At just 15, Rachel discovered her passion for teaching dance and worked to develop a strong background in Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Heels.
Having taught for the past 11 years, Rachel has held classes with ages ranging from 2 years old to adults. Working with both large groups and private classes, Rachel loves to create a fun and energetic dance space, where everyone is able to feel confident and let go.
Most recently, Rachel has branched into choreographing and directing children’s musicals, having produced Disney’s “Aristocats”, “Annie Jnr” and “The Little Mermaid” in the last 3 years. This came about after many years as an active member of the Newcastle Theatre community, performing in numerous plays and musicals throughout her career.
Rachel is so excited to be sharing her knowledge and love of dance within her new role with the YFDC team.
Having successfully danced multiple styles from a young age, Shearra embarked on her dance teaching journey at age 14 and by 18 was teaching independently.
Shearra joined the Your First Dance Co. squad in 2018, bringing along her unique blend of Twerk, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Ballet. Shearra inspires her students to try something new and build their confidence.
Over the years, Shearra has trained and completed workshops with many industry professionals and is right at home teaching in the Your First Dance Co. Corporate/Consulting team, leading YFDC Adults Dance Classes, Hens Parties, and Corporate Events.

Miss Jenna has been dancing since the age of 3, and has had a love of dance since. She has been trained in jazz, contemporary, lyrical, cheerleading, hip pop and tap. She completed the Les Griffith Tap exam syllabus up to her student teachers. To further her tap training Miss Jenna attended several tap workshops with the tap dogs and the forge tap project Australia, as well as assisting with choreography for the Star Struck tap ensemble group. Jenna is currently studying a bachelor of early childhood and primary education at the University of Newcastle, to further her love for teaching.
Throughout her years of training, she competed in eisteddfods with groups, solos and duos from ages 8 to 18. She was in a competitive cheerleading group for 5 years, which included competing in nationals in Queensland in 2018. She is not shy to the stage, still performing in her dance concerts up until 2021 and performing for Mazklemore at the NRL grand final in 2017.
Miss Jenna started teaching at YFDC in 2021, under the mentoring of Owner Anne-Marie. Here at YFDC Jenna teaches kids classes, adult classes, recreation cheerleading, competition groups and soloists between both the Central Coast and Hunter Region. From a young age, Simone always been passionate about dancing; choreographing her own routines at home even before she started in her dance classes!
Simone began to teach at 14, both Dance and Gymnastics, and continued to do so for several years. She has had experience in a wide range of genres, including Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Commercial Heels, Burlesque, Contemporary, and Jazz Funk. Spending some time in L.A. she took classes from professional choreographers (including Jojo Gomez, Aliya Janell, and Matt Steffanina), finding her love of heels dancing there.
The thing she loves most about teaching is watching things click into place for someone and the realization that they have nailed it just lighting up their whole person. It is amazing to watch people grow not only as dancers but as people as a result of their newfound confidence!
Simone said attending YFDC Adults Classes for the last couple of years now has been great learning and vibing off others. Now, given the opportunity to teach, shes excited to take the leap again into the teaching world. This is what she has the most passion about and being able to work around her full time job. Shes excited for 2022 as a YFDC Team Member.
Isobel has been enjoying dancing since she was 5, starting at just a local dance studio. Over 14 years she performed with ART Dance Academy based on the Central Coast. While working with multiple dance teachers and styles she found her love for Hip Hop. Also finding a love with jazz, tap, contemporary/lyrical and funk/hip hop. This is where she began teaching solos, duos and being a substitute dance teacher.
Since starting here at YFDC as a student close to 5 years ago and showing what she has to offer, she’s stepping into her own and teaching with YFDC in 2022. Her routines are high energy, lots of fun and a good workout.
Back in her HSC, she completed dance as a subject including instructing in safe dance practice and ways to prevent inquiry when dancing. This subject also gave an alternative perspective to choreographing using storytelling and motifs.
Isobel is excited to be part of the YFDC Dance Family as a Dance Teacher Teaching Adults Dance Classes at Central Coast Region.
